WETA Celebrates History And Homes Of Del Ray
Del Ray was profiled Monday night on WETA's "If You Lived Here," with the hosts learning that home prices for the neighborhood's bungalows, Cape Cods and duplexes have shot up over the past 20 years. Local real estate agent Jen Walker took the hosts on a tour, explaining that a one-bedroom condominium in Del Ray currently goes for about $225,000, while townhouses are selling for $600,000 to $700,000. Single-family homes range from $850,000 to more than $2 million.
According to patch.com, "The hosts visited a remodeled townhouse on Kennedy Street that featured a refurbished kitchen with a big opening to see through to the living room. The finished basement adds lots of living space to the townhouse. The home went on the market for $719,900. Located adjacent to what was once the second-largest U.S. railyard, Del Ray has gone through many changes in its history. Over the past 25 years, Del Ray has seen new shops and restaurants opening. In the 1970s and 1980s, the majority of businesses in Del Ray were Black-owned. Today, a larger number of white business owners and residents have moved in."
As per patch.com, "The show highlights Pat Miller Neighborhood Square on Mount Vernon Ave., which was dedicated to the community leader in 2017. Miller, who has lived in Del Ray for more than 30 years, has served as a president of the Del Ray Business Association and served on the board for more than 20 years. The hosts find out that Del Ray, like other parts of Alexandria, is extremely dog-friendly. "I don't think there's a restaurant or a retail store that doesn't allow dogs," Miller said."
